Born in Remedios, Cuba in 1931, Wayacon (Julian Espinosa) is an intensely liberated man who is not restrained by notions that limit most artists. He is as likely to paint on paper or canvas as he is to use a shirt or a pair of paints as his surface. Some may say his work looks childlike. Yet no child would create art with this intensity and depth of focus. There is a directness to his efforts that is always fresh and unencumbered.
Waya is represented in the United States by the Cuban Art space in NYC. Click here to visit their website
The Indigo Gallery in Philadelphia also shows his work. Click here to visit the Indigo Gallery website
